August and Everything After by Counting Crows - On this, his band's remarkable debut album, Adam Duritz' chillingly emotional voice and poetic lyrics capture the delicate mixture of pain and beauty that comprises our relationships with others, the world around us, and ourselves. Hitting on themes ranging from love, loss and longing to intense ambition and poignant memory, its eleven simple, but powerful, songs catapulted the band to accolades, awards and sensational critical and commercial success. Known for hit songs like Mr. Jones and Round Here, but offering so much more, this heartfelt and exquisite album eerily echoes many of my thoughts and emotions and remains my favorite album of all-time.
